Slum Vacation is a performance project by California artist Phil America where he has a slum house built and lives in Thailand’s largest, most dangerous slum for a month. Bringing awareness to the 1⁄3 of the world’s urban population living in slums, Phil takes the time to get to know locals and deals with daily dangers such as the local mafia, police, disease and lack of fresh water and electricity.
